Pest management

For controlling the broad range of destructive pests of the trees, we do the trunk injection
or tree implants of systemic insecticides/fungicides. This technique is effective and environmentally friendly.

For controlling pests in small trees, herbs and shrubs, we carefully select organic or least toxic chemicals to spray. All measures will be applied to minimize spray risk to the people and environment.

Why Systemic Insecticide

Trunk injection is an effective innovation and alternative to spraying or soil application of pesticides for insect or pest control in trees. We inject systemic pesticide directly on the plant xylem. The chemical we inject is soluble in water and can be absorbed by a plant. When insects suck plant sap they will be killed. Unlike the traditional method of pest control such as spraying, this technique will not kill the beneficial insects like ladybird as the majority of the beneficial insects don’t suck the plant sap. Since chemical is directly injected into trees, there is no impact to your family, the applicator and the environment around you. The trunk injected pesticide has very high use efficiency with a great deal of pest control. Trunk injected chemicals stay in the plant system whole season while sprayed chemicals last only for few weeks. Chemical spray is also less effective because of the fact that both insects and plants are protected by a waxy layer that offers minimum penetration.

Several years of research and development has shown that trunk injection has been proven to give the best results when protecting trees from the pests. The beauty of this method is that it can be applied in environmentally sensitive areas like schools, parks, playgrounds, golf courses and near waterways. This method is not sensitive to environmental conditions such as rain or wind. People will not get affected when trunk injection is going on in the public areas.

Fertility management

It is very common in urban setting that the top soil to be removed or compacted during construction, renovation or during landscape projects which results nutrients being washed away, poor aeration, impenetrable surfaces and also reduce water holding capacity. Another reason why soil is lacking of nutrients is the fact that the nutrient cycle is disrupted when we annually rake of all the leaves and compost them.

The most common method of fertilizing the trees is general broadcast of the granular fertilizers. Generally it goes on the top of the grass. The downfall of this method is that it tends to feed grass roots before it actually gets to the tree roots. Another technique which is common to the homeowner is fertilizer spikes. In this method, the spikes are pushed in to the ground and it is very concentrated amount of fertilizer in one spot and the roots actually have to go to that site to get the nutrients.

Deep root fertilization

Deep root fertilization is the more preferable method where injectable water soluble slow-release fertilizers are injected into the feeder roots zone (4-8 inch deep) in the soil homogenously. Injection starts at approx. 2-3 feet from the root ball and extends the same distance beyond the drip line. One of the reasons we inject the fertilizer just outside the root ball of the tree is that any new roots come out from the tree will be encouraged keep going out to the new soil and get established as quickly as possible.

We carry the best products for deep root fertilization which are specially designed for evergreen and deciduous trees. Besides NPK, our product also contains micronutrients and beneficial microbes. It improves the overall health of the trees and makes the condition favourable around the root area. It also enhances blooms in flowering trees

Timing of Applications

A comprehensive tree and shrub fertilization program should include both early spring and early fall application program. It is recommended that lower nitrogen, higher phosphorous and higher potassium analysis is used for a fall application. A 1:2:2 N-P-K ratio in the fall improves the stress tolerance, winter hardiness and increase carbohydrate storage. A good fertilization in the fall will help a struggling tree to flourish next spring. A spring application ratio of 1:1:1 for deciduous and 3:2:1 ratio for evergreens is ideal.
